Social anxiety is no joke. Especially when you’re in a new place with tons of new faces. When you join a fraternity, your brothers become your friends. You are also likely to have events and do other social outreaches, with your brothers there for support. That means your opportunities for socializing expand exponentially, and you don’t have to do it alone.

2. Generate Coping Skills

Everyone needs healthy coping mechanisms. When you have a crisis, you might not always know how to handle it, and you may not always have the easiest time calming down. When you can go to someone just the next room over, you are building a healthy coping mechanism: expressing yourself. Your brothers might be able to share their coping skills with you, enhancing your toolbox substantially. 

3. Improve Communication Skills

You will use communication skills for the rest of your life and will continually build upon them. When you cannot efficiently communicate with the people around you, it can severely impact your mental health. For example, living in a frat house with your brothers can force you to learn to communicate with them effectively, in addition to the events you will attend. This can make a world of difference throughout the rest of your college life. 

4. Create Higher Confidence Levels

When you are busy at work with a bunch of like-minded individuals, you are much more likely to feel confident in yourself. You know that you serve a purpose, you are valuable to your community, and your friends do not hesitate to remind you of this. Your fraternity’s support can help you feel like you are paving the way for a better world, which you most likely are! Your mental health will thank you for it.
