More and more fraternities and sororities are looking to understand how to improve their digital recruitment effectively. After all, no one knows the state of the future with the way the pandemic is going. While some universities may have students attending classes part-time, others are sticking to online-only learning. Where does this leave Greek chapters in their recruitment endeavors?

These unprecedented times are forcing sororities and fraternities to change the way they recruit. And since Greek-life digital recruitment has never been a necessity, many are confused about how to go about it. Fortunately, if you keep reading, you’ll learn how to improve your digital recruitment, so that you can continue to grow your chapter.

How Do You Improve Digital Recruitment?

Below are the five ways you can start improving your digital recruitment.

1. Social Media Marketing

One of the best ways to connect with potential new members is through social media.

One method is Instagram. You can use Instagram to post fun photos, so potential new members get a sense of what the chapter is like and can engage with your posts. Reach out to them as well. However, have real conversations and get to know them before going straight into the “Do you want to join Greek life?” conversation. If you use your social media effectively, you can use it to drive traffic to your website. On your website, PNM’s can fill out a contact form where they can show interest in joining. You can also use Instagram to promote an ad to drive more traffic to your Instagram page.

Facebook is another option. Join your campus’ various student organization groups on Facebook. Post about how recruitment is coming up, and you are looking for people interested in joining Greek life. Send those potential new members to a landing page where they can fill out their contact information, so you know who to reach out to when recruitment comes around.

2. Email Marketing

Your social media efforts are part of how you’ll build your list of people to email when the time comes. However, you should also reach out to your university student engagement administration to see if you can get an email list. Once you have a list of people to email, you should send out an email campaign to gauge students’ interest in joining Greek life.

You can use a website like MailChimp to help you with creating that email campaign.

3. Utilize the Appropriate Resources

If you aren’t using the resources available to you, it will be a lot harder to implement recruitment effectively. Nowadays, you can do so much digitally. You don’t necessarily need to do recruitment face-to-face. While yes, it is more fun that way, you’ll have to work around this due to COVID-19.

Nowadays, you have resources like Zoom to do group video calls. That way, you can still have small groups of potential new members meeting with each of your active members. Each Zoom meeting room can have a different link associated with each active member. Then, give each PNM various time-slots to attend separate zoom meetings. Each time slot will be associated with a different link. They can then attend each session and meet multiple members of your chapter.

Another resource you should utilize is a Greek life management platform like GreekXperience. GreekXperience has software specifically designed to help you attract PNMs and grow your chapter, including a matching process to help students and chapters connect. If you’re putting in overtime to make recruitment work, it’s critical to rely on experts and utilize the resources available to you to make your life easier. If you need to hire people to help you with your social media management, then do that. Organizations know that if they invest money into growing and enhancing their business, the results can override the money put into it. If your revenue exceeds your expenses, you’re making a profit. The same applies here. You need members to keep the chapter going. After all, those membership dues are important. If you aren’t willing to invest in your fraternity or sorority, you’ll have a hard time increasing membership.

4. Get Everyone Involved

Another way to attract potential new members is to utilize your members. Explain to them the importance of building relations with potential new members. While your social media manager might be able to get an engaged following, your chapter will be a lot more effective if everyone gets involved.

Make sure that your members are also doing their part in reaching out to potential new members via social media to gauge interest and directing them to your website where they can fill out their contact information.

5. Keep Having Fun

No matter what, recruitment is still supposed to be fun. Continue to enjoy the process to the best of your ability. Continue to make those life-long bonds and connect with PNMs in a meaningful way. And if you want to do virtual happy hours, then do it. A virtual happy hour doesn’t mean alcohol needs to be involved, either. You can do a coffee happy hour or boba happy hour. Either way, your goal is to have fun and make sure that the PNMs are having fun as well!

The Bottom Line

If you want to have an effective digital recruitment, you need to hone in on your marketing tactics. Make sure to use all of the marketing resources available to you. Remember to be willing to invest financially in your fraternity or sorority to attract more of those PNMs. You don’t need to do this alone.
